Reagan vs. Roosevelt

Republican President: Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan was a great President who was liked by many people. He took office on January 20, 1981, and immediately started to make a difference. There were many things that he did to improve his presidential term, including ending the Cold War, cutting tax rates, and sparking economic growth. When Reagan was President, he had many ideas and slogans that encouraged the people through the good and the bad times in life. One of the things Reagan emphasized was, “Peace through Strength.” It was his goal to achieve this philosophy successfully because he thought it would create better foreign relations and policies. He wanted to improve the relations with the Soviet Union as well as other countries. Another phrase that Reagan emphasized, was “Morning in America.” This phrase was much more than a slogan that Reagan often spoke of. It symbolized a new morning or beginning in the nation. This encouraged many people to look forward to the amazing things that were coming in the country that Reagan was leading.

Reagan was a great Republican president who did a lot for his country and for the people. I think that Reagan was a very personal president. He did things to protect the people and their well-being and he was very focused on encouraging and motivating the people.

Democratic President: Franklin Roosevelt

Franklin Roosevelt was a great Democratic president. He was elected during a really hard time, the Great Depression. He did a great job helping the Americans get back on their feet and he gave them hope for a brighter future. At the time, there were 13,000,000 people who were unemployed and looking to Roosevelt for some guidance and hope. While under an immense amount of pressure, Roosevelt came up with the New Deal Program. Some people agreed with this program while other people felt quite the opposite. It was eventually denied, but he still went through a great deal of effort to try and pass it.

When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, it was also Roosevelt’s job to recoup the nation and build it back together-no easy task. After it happened, Roosevelt was the one who oversaw organizations that were gathering resources for the war. Roosevelt was given a lot of trials and hardships, however he responded the best way he could in a time of trial. He tried to give the nation hope for the future and he did his best to secure that.

If these two presidents were going head to head, I think that Ronald Reagan would win over Franklin Roosevelt. Reagan has more experience and he had more success during his presidential terms. In addition to that, I think that Reagan was very good at making decisions that were best for the people and the nation. He handled situations better than Roosevelt did. Ronald Reagan was a great President who will be remembered and honored forever.

  1. Good job blogging! I agreed with everything you said about Reagan. I had the same match-up. But I ended up saying FDR just because I thought he would’ve appealed to more people groups in today’s society.
