After viewing all the votes, we are excited to announce that Oprah Winfrey is the new president representing the Equality Party. She is very excited to begin her new journey and we can’t wait to see how she thrives. In her words, she says, “It doesn’t matter who you are, where you came from. The ability to triumph begins with you. Always.”
Hi, my name is Oprah Winfrey, and I’m running as a candidate to be the next President representing the Equality Party. I am very excited to hopefully be able to represent such a great Party. The Equality Party has such a strong platform and I agree with everything they stand for 100%. I am a strong believer in making sure that everyone has the same equal opportunities. Being an African American woman, myself, I am definitely considered to be in the minority when it comes to the work force and helping out in the government. If I were to be elected as the new representative for the Equality Party, I think it would be a great way to show other people that we believe in granting equal rights for all people.
Like I said once, “I’ve come to believe that each of us has a personal calling that’s as unique as a fingerprint – and that the best way to succeed is to discover what you love and then find a way to offer it to others in the form of service, working hard, and also allowing the energy of the universe to lead you.” I am very excited for this next calling in my life and I know that if I get elected I will put others before myself and work hard to benefit all people. I hope that you consider me as a great candidate to be a representative for this new Party. Don’t forget to vote!
Hi, I’m Bertha Anderson, and I am a strong supporter of the Equality Party. As an African American, single mother of two, I have spent much of my life being stereotyped and looked down upon by others. At the Women’s Rights Conference in Brooklyn, I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Miss Oprah Winfrey, and I have to say that she is one of the most down to earth, inspiring people I have ever met, celebrity or not. It is a priority of hers to create and enforce equality for all people, which is so rare among our society today.
Along with Oprah herself, I was pleasantly surprised when I heard about the new Equality Party. The values they represent and issues they focus on seem essential in the improvement of our country. With my current situation, it has been difficult to find a job where I can provide for my family. If Oprah is elected president of 2020, I will hopefully be given the opportunity to prove myself in the work place and life in general.
We will set up websites and call-ins for people to donate if they want to. If you would like to volunteer by answering phones or passing out flyers from door-to-door, feel free to sign up on our website. As far as promoting our party, we will use social media and other websites to show people why the Equality Party is so great.
A group of 4 people came together to make their own party regarding equality and protecting the minority. There have been many controversial topics that arise regarding minority whether it be in certain issues or even racial minority. Because of past events such as, the Great Depression, after the stock market crashed, the country was very focused on picking people back up. Unfortunately, they primarily focused on the white Americans. In 1933, the unemployment rate was over 25 percent, however the unemployment rates for American minorities ranged up to 50 percent. It was hard for the minorities to differentiate the Great Depression and ‘normal’ economic times. The Democratic Party, specifically FDR, attempted to improve the economy by creating the New Deal laws. This wasn’t helping the minority parties at all. Looking back at history, it was easy to see that other parties didn’t prioritize and view the minority people the same. Because of this and many other reasons, the Equality Party was created.
Our symbol for the Equality Party, is an equilateral triangle. All sides of this triangle are the same lengths. This correlates with how we want everyone to experience the same opportunities and privileges.
The main focus of our party is to give opportunities to racial minorities, women, and the LGBT community:
-Racial Minorities: Over the years our country has been very divided regarding racial issues. We feel that it is important to give all people equal experiences no matter the color of their skin or the culture that they come from. We can appeal to these people by having a variety of people representing our party. If people see that our party is more diverse than others, they will be more likely to agree with what our party stands for.
-Women: While women aren’t necessarily viewed as the minority (population wise), many times, women aren’t valued in the government aspect or the work force. People instead view men as being more superior than women in work settings. In the past, women weren’t allowed to vote, they couldn’t have a say in the government and they weren’t given jobs outside of their home. Because we are trying to evolve our nation into a unified body we feel that it is important to give women the same opportunities as men. We can appeal to women by allowing them to represent our party and be candidates.
–LGBT community: In the same way that religious freedom is given to people, we feel that beliefs on love and relationships should be open to interpretation without being looked down upon. People have the right to be who they want to be and love who they want to love. Whether or not someone’s relationship status is different than yours, they shouldn’t be any less qualified for jobs and other opportunities. We can appeal to them by letting them be who they want to be and supporting that.
–Economy: Protecting small businesses to ensure economic growth.
Various small businesses are the core of the economy. They are probably thought to be the minority, because the bigger companies and businesses are superior to them, but in reality, roughly two out of every three jobs are provided by small businesses. It is important to strengthen and enhance the smaller businesses because they are the backbone of the economy. Along with Small Business Week, started by JFK, small business owners will be provided strong property rights and contract law to help them become as successful as possible. Enhancing the smaller businesses, will start to increase the economic growth.
-National Security: Main job of the national government.
In the Constitution, congress is given the power to declare war, support armies and organize the military forces. The President is considered the “Commander in Chief of the Army.” By dividing the power this way, there are checks and balances limiting too much power in the government and ensuring that protecting the nation is our priority.
-Education: Ensuring that some sort of education is available for everyone.
It is important to provide some sort of opportunity for everyone to be educated-no matter their social status, and how much money they have, so they are able to “write” their own future. Education is very crucial to young adults’ lives and everyone needs it to be successful in the future. We think that it is very important to give education to everyone, but especially the younger kids. We should develop early learning programs for kids who need it so they can thrive and learn so they can be more successful in the future.
-Healthcare: Ensuring that some sort of healthcare is available for everyone.
It is important to provide some sort of healthcare for everyone. Many people aren’t able to have healthcare and we value that everyone should have the opportunity to receive healthcare. This type of heath care will be run by the government and people would pay based on their income. This would allow equal coverage to all people no matter their differences in income.
-Gay Marriage: Gay marriage should be allowed.
The purpose of our party is to protect the minority and allow people to have the freedom to do what they want to. It is because of this, that gay marriage is okay. People should be allowed to marry who they want to. We will not discriminate and judge people just because they love someone different.
-Gun control: We should have the right to own guns.
In the constitution, it says that we have the right to own guns. Everyone should have the right to own a gun, above the age of 16, and they must have taken a gun safety class of course. We don’t want people to be able to buy a gun just whenever they want, they must take a gun safety class similar to a Driver’s Ed class.
